The Fragile States Index remains a leading tool that highlights current trends in social, economic and political pressures that affect all states, but can strain some beyond their capacity to cope. Apart from the impact on their people, fragile states present the international community with a variety of challenges.

We invite you to a forum at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 9 to discuss the current situation as it has evolved, possible scenarios of violence which may occur, and what civil society actors have been doing to get ahead of what otherwise could be a serious challenge for peace and security in Nigeria.

Apart from the impact on their people, fragile and failed states present the international community with a variety of challenges. In today's world, with its globalized economy, information systems and security challenges, pressures on one fragile state can have serious repercussions not only for that state and its people, but also for its neighbors and other states halfway across the globe.

Women's Voices from Fragile States and Why They Matter

This event focused on women in fragile states, with a conversation led by Ambassador Melanne Verveer of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. Panelists discussed the challenges that women face in fragile states, and some areas where women are taking the lead in reconciliation; what happens to girls and women as the most vulnerable and often most neglected victims in conflict afflicted states; and why telling these stories is so important and how we can make sure others see and hear these stories.
